Judges 4 – Part 3

QUESTION: Wimps and Feminism - 3

ANSWER:

Judges 4 – Part 3

by Pastor Nathan Shepherd (Dive Chapel, Candle Key, Florida)

“Then it gets fun. Deborah says, ‘Up! For this is the day in which the LORD has delivered Sisera into your hand. Has not the LORD gone out before you?’ Barak and company ran down the mount and the LORD did something to the 900 iron chariots. In the old King James it says that God ‘discomfited’ them, here it says He ‘routed’ them.

“The mighty Canaanites were so routed that they jumped out of their chariots and took off on foot. They trusted so much in their armor, their tanks, that they really didn’t have a Plan B. The LORD knew this and He smeared them easily by using an untrained army of cowardly men.

“Let’s slow down right here and talk about something cool. Notice what Deborah did to send 10,000 men into battle? See what she said? ‘Up!’ with an exclamation point. Did that mean look up? Get up? Wake up? I think it’s all of the above. The reason the men, who should have been leading Israel were so ineffective, such wimps and idiots, was because they were downcast. They had forgotten that the power is from God above. They were NOT looking UP!

“In Psalm 20, verse 7 it says, ‘Some trust in chariots, and some trust in horses; But we will trust in the name of the LORD our God!’ And I’ll add an exclamation point to that. God’s power trumps chariots, horses, iron spears, catapults, flaming arrows, battering rams, pistols, rifles, shotguns, tanks, missiles, laser beams, atom bombs, hand grenades, any and every thing that can come against you.

“Judges 4 moves along with Barak chasing Sisera to kill him. Sisera runs to the tent of Heber and his wife Jael. Sisera asks for a glass of water and to be hidden, but Jael gives him warm milk which will likely put him to sleep. As soon as Sisera is asleep in the tent, Jael takes what today would be a railroad spike and a sledge hammer and pounds the spike through Sisera’s temple, nailing him to the ground. Barak and the men of Israel are denied the honor of killing Sisera due to their lack of faith.

“Now gang, we’re almost done. But I want to make a point that is very relevant today. There is a lot of talk about America electing a female President. Well, look at Judges 4. When does a nation get a woman leader? When the men act like wimps. When the leadership does not look to the LORD God Almighty for direction and instead trusts in chariots and has no faith in God. God may chose a woman to lead us.

“Up! UP! For this is the day that the LORD has delivered all of your enemies and difficulties. Read and believe Judges 4, verse 14.”

Judges 5 – Go!

What do you think?
We have all sinned and deserve God’s judgment. God, the Father, sent His only Son to satisfy that judgment for those who believe in Him. Jesus, the creator and eternal Son of God, who lived a sinless life, loves us so much that He died for our sins, taking the punishment that we deserve, was buried, and rose from the dead according to the Bible. If you truly believe and trust this in your heart, receiving Jesus alone as your Savior, declaring, "Jesus is Lord," you will be saved from judgment and spend eternity with God in heaven.

What is your response?

Yes, I want to follow Jesus

I am a follower of Jesus

I still have questions
