Hungry for God

QUESTION: Hungry for God – Know God Better

ANSWER:

Hungry for God – Insights from God’s Word
Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again he offers the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But when this Priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, He sat down at the right hand of God. Since that time He waits fir His enemies to be made His footstool, because by one sacrifice He has made perfect forever those who are being made holy. - Hebrews 10:11-14

Hungry for God – Going Deeper
Prayer: I look up into Your Face today, Jesus, knowing how hungry I am for You -- to know You better and to understand Your ways. My mind reveals its limitations as I see that I am only able to grasp that which my human brain can hold. Yet still I know there is more. I am hungry, Lord, to go beyond my own human ability to understand. I yearn to grab on to the eternal possibilities -- the things that sometimes seem to lie just beyond my grasp -- yet attainable if I will just go down deeper.

With every passing day I am seeking to understand Your secret truths, and with every passing day You remind me that I am as close to You as I want to be. All the old parts of my nature -- the need for power and authority -- are being revealed as the impure motives they really are. I am seeking out a new life -- a new way to proceed, and piece by piece, You are revealing different facets of Your nature.

Sometimes, my King, I have to admit I feel overwhelmed -- the deeper I go, the hungrier I get. The hungrier I get, the more food I require. You seem to be removing all that is counterfeit and false in me and birthing a new work. You are mixing my prayers with the prayers of the angels and saints, and You are creating a brand new work in me and in so many of my brothers and sisters.

The fears I once had are being taken away -- one step at a time. You are breathing new hope into my prayer life, and You are revealing Your heart for Your people as You constantly remind us to keep our lamps filled with oil -- as Your footsteps are approaching.

I cannot help but be excited as I see the preparations that have been going on for a while now beginning to make some sense. I see Your love for us in a way I never knew before, and I am being filled with courage to step closer into Your Throne Room where blessings await. I am no longer waiting for You to call to me. I am seeking You out with a vengeance knowing that I need all the wisdom, power, and strength I can get -- if I am going to persevere.

Your great Holy Spirit’s anointing power is being released in unprecedented ways to those whose hearts are willing to listen to that "still small voice." The destiny that awaits Your kids requires courage and perseverance, faith and trust. We can no longer let fears control our choices -- we need instead to walk boldly into the Presence of our King and ask His help in fulfilling our destiny. What seems impossible to me is but a mere wink from Your eyes to us.

I pray today that You would empower anyone who chooses to pray this prayer with a new strength that allows them to persevere when they are weak so they that Your message of restoration can be delivered to all mankind. Help them to recognize the authority they have been given in Christ to enforce the victory You already attained for us on the cross at Calvary. Whatever ignorance is holding them captive or whatever timidity they are sensing, I ask You to reveal it to them so that their lives will be used to retrieve that which has been lost. Help them to become bold and take the necessary steps of faith You require. Remind them You are waiting for them to step up and step out in faith so that Satan’s power can be turned back on this earth.

I pray also for our leaders today as they seek Your vision for the years ahead. I pray for their courage and their passion, and I pray for their integrity and purity in all of their motivations. I pray they will boldly follow where You lead, and that You will give them the strength they need to accomplish the vision you give them.

May You grant all my brothers and sisters Your blessing of peace, and may we all live by faith -- not draw back in fear -- as I know this is displeasing to You. Thank You, Jesus, that You stand ready to help -- whatever the circumstances -- all we need to do is pray. To You be all the honor and glory!

Hungry for God – Making it Personal
Reflect: Ask yourself if you are one of God’s people willing to step out boldly, courageously into a fuller, deeper relationship with the King where your destiny lies waiting? Are you willing to work for it? Are you seeking a more intimate walk with Christ as your greatest treasure -- which is truly the reward we all desire? Are you asking God regularly for His wisdom? Stop now and ask God to answer some of these questions and journal the reply you receive.

What do you think?
We have all sinned and deserve God’s judgment. God, the Father, sent His only Son to satisfy that judgment for those who believe in Him. Jesus, the creator and eternal Son of God, who lived a sinless life, loves us so much that He died for our sins, taking the punishment that we deserve, was buried, and rose from the dead according to the Bible. If you truly believe and trust this in your heart, receiving Jesus alone as your Savior, declaring, "Jesus is Lord," you will be saved from judgment and spend eternity with God in heaven.

What is your response?

Yes, I want to follow Jesus

I am a follower of Jesus

I still have questions
